Physician Assistant Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PA PEM)

Physician Assistants (PA) are providing care in many
clinical situations wherein they will encounter acutely sick
and or injured children. The knowledge, skills and attitudes
required to provide effective pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) has grown significantly since PEM was recognized as a specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

This web site is designed to offer additional educational resources to both PA program faculty and entry-level PA
students throughout the United States. The researchers
and steering committee assessed the current PA program
curricula and determined the topics detailed in these
educational modules. We hope it will be advantageous
to enhancement of PA competencies in PEM.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Health Resources and Services Adminstration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMS-C) provided the funding through Grant H34MC04369 for the study and development of these educational modules.

The modules are divided into four topical areas of PEM: (a) recognition of the acutely ill child (b) infectious diseases (c) pharmacotherapeutics and toxicology (d) psychosocial issues. Within the modules you will find some videos, clinical cases, and powerpoint presentations. The modules can be accessed at Educational Modules.
