Learning Objectives

  • Describe key findings related to the epidemiology of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) including gender influences, age at presentation and diagnosis, and death rates
  • Discuss the Step Care Model of COPD Management and detail pharmacologic treatment recommendations based on the stage of disease.
  • Recognize major benefits and risks of established and newer therapies including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and selected non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Develop an evidence-based treatment and monitoring plan for an outpatient suffering from symptoms of COPD.

Conference for 1 hour of Category I Credit

Dr. Strange is Professor in the Department of Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine.  He serves as a consultant for Arriva, Taleeris, and ZLB Behring.  He has grant support from the NIH.  Emphasys Medical, Glaxo, and Taleeris.  He is on speaker bureaus with Taleeris, ZLB Behring, Boehringer Ingelheim, Pfizer, and Baxter.
