Program description

This continuing education conference is designed to deliver evidence-based information regarding current standard of care and emerging therapies in several topics, including major health burdens are recognized by CDC Healthy People 2010 (i.e. tobacco  abuse, obesity).  In addition, topics where significant changes in standard of care are being delivered to serve as an update to practitioners who are more than 5 years post residency or graduation, such as new information regarding advanced imaging, applications for ultrasonography, and treatment in acute coronary syndromes.  The appropriate prescribing of controlled substances, including balancing the issue of the under-treatment of chronic pain while prescribing with liability authority, will be discussed.  Our state is placing significant emphasis on this issue, including the mandate for some professions to obtain specified hours in this topic within each CME cycle.  Additional topics serve to help practitioners be successful with the business of medicine, including wealth management training, current trends in contract negotiation, and safe, proven aesthetic therapies which can complement some primary care services.  Lecture-learner format will be complemented by workshops which allow participants to apply didactic knowledge in patient scenarios, as well as, participate in active discussions with topic experts/panels.
