How does the curriculum in the executive MHA program differ from the residential program?
The MHA curriculum is the same for both programs and is taught by the same highly qualified faculty. The main difference is in the manner in which the coursework is delivered. Assignments in individual courses may differ slightly based upon the background and experience of the students.

How often will I need to come to campus?
Students can expect to spend approximately six days on campus their first semester and four days (Thursday though Sunday) each of the remaining semesters.

What is the difference in course load between the two- and three-year programs of study?
Students enrolled in the two-year option take three courses each semester and students enrolled in the three-year option take no more than two courses per term.

 Are any prerequisite courses required?
Yes, an undergraduate statistics course and an undergraduate microeconomics course must be completed prior to entering the program. Students must be proficient in Excel.

How long does it take to complete the program?
Students enrolled full-time in the Executive MHA program can complete the requirements in 6 semesters depending on the course-load taken each semester. Part time students will require 9 semesters to complete the program.

What are the educational backgrounds of MHA students?
Students enter the MHA program with varied backgrounds. The Department believes that the diversity of students enriches the learning experience and creates an environment in which students can challenge each other with new ideas and new ways to solve problems.

What are the advantages of offering the MHA program at an academic medical center like MUSC?
An academic medical center offers students a number of advantages. Students are surrounded by health care professionals and are able to gain exposure to real world issues and situations. They frequently have occasion to work as part of interdisciplinary teams, which is similar to what students will experience in the work environment.

What is the tuition?
The current tuition for in-state students is approximately $3617 per semester. For out-of-state students the tuition is approximately $7570 per semester. These rates apply to both the Residential and Executive programs.

Is financial aid available?
Students are eligible to apply for financial aid through the Medical University of South Carolina Office of Financial Aid. On-line financial aid information at http://www.musc.edu/financialmanagement/

How are decisions regarding a student's application made?
The MHA Faculty Admissions Committee reviews all student applications. Admissions are based on the student's grade point average (GPA), Graduate Record Examination (GRE scores or Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores, and three references. To be competitive, an applicant should have at least a 3.0 GPA, a score of 1000 on the math + verbal and 4 or higher on the analytical section of the GRE, or 500 on the GMAT, strong references and good writing and computer skills.

What is the demand for graduates of an MHA program?
Today, an estimated 100,000 people serve in heatlh management positions, from middle management to CEO positions across organizations of all sizes. U.S. News and World Report recently listed health services administration as one of the top growth professions, and Modern Healthcare featured an entire issue on the critical need for well-prepared leaders in health administration.
