Val Miller and student Megan Vaughan box up gifts for the troops in Iraq
| Weary and on holiday party overload, or too much of too much, CHP staff decided to focus their energies towards helping make the holidays special for those less fortunate, by organizing several service initiatives in which faculty, staff and students could participate. For the Give2theTroops campaign, CHP sent 4 huge boxes full of DVDs, CDs, candy, snacks, socks, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, hot cocoa, Christmas cards and many goodies that totaled 136 lbs. In addition, monetary donations collected and totalling $145 were sent to be used to pay for postage to mail the care packages and/or to purchase special items requested by our deployed troops. Joann King asked her daughter, a teacher at Murray LaSaine elementary in James Island, SC to include her students in a service learning experience by making cards for the troops in Iraq. The students' overwhelming response and enthusiasm, went well beyond just making cards. Left, students from Murray LaSaine |
