Welcome to our website!

The Center for Health Economic and Policy Studies (CHEPS) was established as a University sponsored center in the summer of 2003. We are now in our fourth full year of operation.

Our Mission
The Center for Health Economic and Policy Studies (CHEPS) is a division within the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina. The mission of the CHEPS is threefold:

1) To conduct extramurally-funded research in diverse areas of health economics
2) To provide access to high-quality expertise in health economics and econometrics to enhance research conducted by faculty internal and external to MUSC, and
3) To promote dissemination of new research finding to the broadest possible audiences.

During the 2006-07 fiscal year the Center has continued its growth in research, publications, and service to the Community. CHEPS team members brought in more than $10.6 million in extramural support, and are co-investigators on an additional $42 million in funded research at MUSC, providing essential components to the success of those research efforts. CHEPS faculty published 77 articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, and proceedings. Our working paper library now contains 65 papers.

In addition, our efforts to assist other faculty at MUSC in developing their own research agendas has resulted in CHEPS faculty providing 124 consults, totaling greater than 560 hours. This pro bono assistance to our colleagues - including everything from helping to conceptualize and conduct research projects to providing language to be inserted into grant applications - is one of our principal outreach programs. If you believe that CHEPS may be able to help you, we would welcome the chance to talk with you about it. Just click on the link at the bottom of the page, and let us know how we can help.

CHEPS also has other valuable activities documented in this web site. These include a monthly CHEPS Research Luncheon program, the bi-weekly CHEPS Seminar Series and an extensive library of data.
