CHCR

Research

  • To develop a program of research to address the issues of use, cost, quality, delivery, organization, financing, and outcomes of care;
  • To enhance existing research projects at MUSC supported by NIH, private foundations, and various federal, state, and local contracts;
  • To develop, validate, and integrate data bases and information systems which will provide information on service utilization patterns and outcomes related to various populations, models of delivery, financing reforms, and/or provider practices;
  • To support pilot studies and developmental activities expected to lead to fundable research programs and demonstration projects;
  • To establish a research agenda which will help improve clinical practice, influence health care policy, and contribute to a multidisciplinary knowledge base.

Education

  • To operate a faculty development program;
  • To provide opportunities for trainees to learn and participate in HSR;
  • To maintain programs for visiting faculty;
  • To participate in other training programs.

Organizational

  • To expand the research opportunities within MUSC's colleges and centers in order to support evolution of a concerted, interdisciplinary research program;
  • To integrate existing health services research activities among MUSC's colleges and center;
  • To forge collaborative relationships between health services researchers both within MUSC and with colleagues in other institutions;
  • To create mechanisms that will encourage and facilitate the sharing of resources among those colleges and individuals participating in the Center's initiatives;
  • To coordinate and promote the dissemination of results and decision support information to other researchers, policy makers, administrators, and providers of health care services;
  • To create an environment that is conducive to the development of mutually beneficial interdisciplinary relationships, sustaining rigorous standards of scholarship, and achieving excellence in all Center related activities.

Service

  • To develop and disseminate information to health personnel;
  • To develop and expand mechanisms for dissemination of appropriate HSR information to the
    general public;
  • To maintain staff capable of rapidly responding to requests for focused data collection and analysis for the Medical Center;
  • To work with MUSC and UMA to develop health care delivery resources.
