About INBOX and the IMAP Server Windows

View of INBOX window with examples of mail. Yours won't look exactly like this.

Your INBOX window may be entirely blank if you haven't received mail there yet. In the example above, the different styles and colors of e-mail represent actions you have taken on your mail. For Example:

Note the other information available in the INBOX window: In the top right corner is the total number of messages, number of unseen and number of deleted There is a delete and expunge button There's a bar line with:
Pound sign (#) Bullet (•) Diamond From/To Date Sent: Thread

All items on this bar line are configurable. To change an item, hold down the Command key and click on that item. A popup list allows you to change any item. To see what each item is, hold down the Command key and click on it. For Example:

IMAP Server Information

IMAP Server Information Window. Yours will not look exactly like this

There is a lot of information about the status of your e-mail in the IMAP Server Information Window. Logout Button - If you are connected to the IMAP Server, you will see Logout. If you are disconnected, you will see Login.

The Details button gives you information on the kind of server, you license number, etc.

The status line shows

  1. State of e-mail - The green box shows that you are connected
  2. Favorites - The check mark in the second column marks your INBOX as one to check for new mail at the time interval you set in preferences
  3. Name - Shows the name of the Folder (or directory) that you have created to store your mail. Some are created for you at installation time.
  4. Total e-mail messages - How many messages are in your INBOX
  5. Total number of New Messages - How many of those messages are New
  6. Total number of Unseen Messages - How many of those messages are Unseen
The difference between read and unseen is a subtle one. A new message is one that has arrived since the last time you opened your INBOX. An unseen message is one that was there when you last opened your INBOX, but you did not yet read.

All of these are configurable by Command-clicking (as explained above)
