Adolescent
drivers with type 1 diabetes Adolescent drivers with type
1 diabetes between the ages of 16-19 and parents
of adolescent drivers with type 1 diabetes
between the ages of 16-19 are needed to
participate in an anonymous survey study
examining the impact of diabetes on driving

Adolescents
without alcohol use problems Adolescents between the ages
of 12-20, who are not being treated for an
alcohol use disorder and are without alcohol use
problems, are needed to participate in a
research study as healthy controls to measure
potential markers for alcohol dependence.

Adult females with
stress urinary incontinence The Department of Urology is
participating in a research trial comparing two
urethral bulking agents for minimally invasive
treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
If you are eligible for this study all patient
treatments are paid for and some patient

Adults

Alcohol Do you drink at least 20
drinks a week? MUSC Center for Drug and Alcohol
Programs is conducting an alcohol research study
investigating the effects of a medication in
response to alcohol. Individuals, ages 21 - 40,
who complete the study will be paid for their
participation. This study does not involve

Breastfeeding
mothers Mothers,
18 to 45 years old and their healthy infants,
who are breastfeeding and are within one month
of post-delivery, are needed for a study to
examine the effects of vitamin D
supplementation during breast feeding. Call

Cancer
survivors Are
you a cancer survivor who wants to become
more physically active? Hollings Cancer
Center is seeking volunteers for a study
evaluating the benefits of two physical
activity programs for cancer survivors.
Participants will complete an aerobic
fitness evaluation before and after an
eight-week physical activity program. Call

Depression
Do you think you are
depressed? Are you currently off medication
and between18-65 years old? You may be
eligible for a confidential brain imaging
research study at MUSC which also includes
genetic testing and brain electrical

Depression
A depression research
study of a new investigational medication
for people 18 - 75 years old who
experience symptoms of depression and lack
of interest with sleep problems, feeling
tired, unable to focus, eating too much or
not eating is under way. Participants
receive at no cost investigational
medication for depression and psychiatric
and medical evaluation by Dr.
Brawman-Mintzer. Call 740-1592, ext. 23.
Diabetes Do you have uncontrolled
diabetes? If you are diagnosed with
diabetes, only taking Metformin/Glucophage
for your diabetes, between the ages of
35-70, and not previously treated with
insulin, you may be eligible to participate
in a research study. Call Mary at 792-6143

Females
If you are female,
at least 18 years old, currently use
cocaine, and in good health, you may be
eligible to participate in a non-treatment
study to investigate impulsivity.
Participants receive a psychiatric

Female sufferers of stress urinary
incontinence Women, 18 years of age
and older, who have had symptoms of
stress urinary incontinence for at least
12 months are needed. To be eligible,
you must: leak urine when you laugh,
cough, sneeze or are involved in
physical activity, have undergone some
form of nonsurgical treatment (e.g.,
pelvic floor exercises,
electro-stimulation) with unsatisfactory
results, and available for follow-up for
at least 12 months. Call 792-8924.
Hearing loss Adults with normal
hearing or hearing loss needed for
hearing research study in the
Department of Otolaryngology-Head and
Neck Surgery. Study participants must
be age 18 years and older.
African-Americans are strongly
encouraged to participate.

Marijuana Do you smoke
marijuana? Is it causing problems with
your job, school or family? Are you
thinking about quitting? If so, you
may be eligible to participate in a
research study. Eligible participants
will receive medical supervision, lab
tests, and study medication at no

Obesity
study Volunteers,
4 to 21 years old, who are obese are
needed for free state-of-the-art
evaluations through the MUSC Clinical
and Translational Research Center and
the Children’s Heart Center. Nutrition
assessments, fasting labs, body
composition scans, and cardiac echos
are provided to participants at no
charge. Individuals taking insulin or
chronic oral steroids, and those who
are pregnant, are not eligible.
Parking validation is provided and

Overweight men or women with type 2
diabetes The Weight
Management Center is conducting a
one year research study of an
investigational medication that may
help you lose weight. To qualify,
you must be 18 to 65 years of age,
overweight, take medication for type
2 diabetes, and meet other criteria.
Weight management counseling is

Pain pill or prescription opiate
users need The Institute of
Psychiatry is recruiting individuals
who use pain pills or prescription
opiates (such as OxyContin, Vicodin,
Lortab or Percocet) to participate
in a non-treatment study examining
the relationship between stress and
drug use. Compensation. Information

Pregnancy Are you less than
three months pregnant? If so, you
may be eligible to participate in an
important research study monitoring
fetal growth being conducted through
the MUSC OB/GYN department and the
East Cooper Women’s Center.

Stage IV colon/rectal cancer People with Stage IV
colon/rectal cancer are needed to
participate in a study to share their
stories about their experiences living
with the disease. Participants will be
asked to complete a one-time 30-minute
telephone interview to share their

Trauma Have you witnessed
or experienced trauma in your
lifetime? Individuals between 21 - 30
years old are being recruited for a
research study looking at trauma
history and personality differences.
This is not a treatment study.

Treatment
for adolescents/young adults with
alcohol use problems A behavioral
therapy/medication treatment study is
being conducted at the Institute of
Psychiatry for adolescents/young
adults between the ages of 15 - 25
with alcohol use problems.
Participants will receive therapy and

drink alcohol, you may be eligible
