ADHD If you are at least 18 years old, and think you have current symptoms of ADHD, you may be eligible to participate in a research study that is being conducted at MUSC. All participants are compensated and information is confidential. Call 792-1433.

Adolescents without alcohol use problems Adolescents between the ages of 12-20, who are not being treated for an alcohol use disorder and are without alcohol use problems, are needed to participate in a research study as healthy controls to measure potential markers for alcohol dependence. Participation includes one visit at the Institute of Psychiatry. Call 876-5070.

Alcohol Do you often drink more than four drinks in one night? MUSC’s Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs is conducting research studies with alcohol drinkers 21 to 65 years old. These studies do not provide alcohol treatment. Call 792-9955.

Anxiety Disorders Program Individuals, ages 18 and older, with symptoms of tension and worry are needed for medication treatment studies. Call 740-1592 ext. 23.

Breastfeeding mothers Mothers 18 to 45 years old and their healthy infants, who are breastfeeding and are within one month of post-delivery, are needed for a study to examine the effects of vitamin D supplementation during breast feeding. Call 792-7842.

Cancer survivors Are you a cancer survivor who wants to become more physically active? Hollings Cancer Center is seeking volunteers for a study evaluating the benefits of two physical activity programs for cancer survivors. Participants will complete an aerobic fitness evaluation before and after an eight-week physical activity program. Call 792-8250.

Diabetes The Department of Family Medicine  is conducting a study to determine whether treatment with a medication can reduce levels of Asymmetric Dimethylarginine (ADMA) in people with diabetes. Candidates should be 40-75 years of age and have a current dia

Down syndrome Children, ages 10 to 17, who have Down syndrome are needed for a study evaluating a new drug to help improve communication, daily living skills and socialization. Call 876-1524 or e-mail vanbake@musc.edu.

Females If you are female, at least 18 years old, currently use cocaine, and in good health, you may be eligible to participate in a non-treatment study to investigate impulsivity. Participants receive a psychiatric evaluation at no cost. Call 792-4847.

Female sufferers of stress urinary incontinence Women, 18 years of age and older, who have had symptoms of stress urinary incontinence for at least 12 months are needed. To be eligible, you must: leak urine when you laugh, cough, sneeze or are involved in physical activity, have undergone some form of nonsurgical treatment (e.g., pelvic floor exercises, electro-stimulation) with unsatisfactory results, and available for follow-up for at least 12 months. Fibromyalgia Researchers are evaluating an investigational treatment for chronic pain that involves the uses of magnetic pulses to stimulate the area of the brain  thought to be involved in pain perception. Blacks are preferred. Call 792-0199 or 792-3127.

Healthy adults Researchers are evaluating an investigational treatment for pain that involves the use of magnetic pulses (transcranial magnetic stimulation) to stimulate areas of the brain that are thought to be involved in pain perception.  Qualifications include no history of seizures or chronic pain condition. Overactive bladder The Department of OB/GYN is conducting an overactive bladder study. the study is seeking females aged 18 and older who, for at least six months, experience overactive bladder symptoms with the sudden urge to urinate. Call 792-0349.

Overweight men or women with type 2 diabetes The Weight Management Center is conducting a one year research study of an investigational medication that may help you lose weight. To qualify, you must be 18 to 65 years of age, overweight, take medication for type 2 diabetes, and meet other criteria. Weight management counseling is included. Treatment for adolescents/young adults with alcohol use problems A behavioral therapy/medication treatment study is being conducted at the Institute of Psychiatry for adolescents/young adults between the ages of 15 - 25 with alcohol use problems. Participants will receive therapy and medication at no cost. Call 876-5070.

Women If you are a female, at least 21 years old, and drink alcohol, you may be eligible for a research study being conducted by the MUSC Department of Psychiatry. Participation is completed in one visit. Compensation. Call 792-7067.
