MUSC’s Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs is conducting research studies with alcohol drinkers 21 to 65 years old. These studies do not provide alcohol treatment. Call 792-9955. Breastfeeding mothers Mothers 18 to 45 years old and their healthy infants, who are breastfeeding and are within one month of post-delivery, are needed for a study to examine the effects of vitamin D supplementation during breast feeding. Hollings Cancer Center is seeking volunteers for a study evaluating the benefits of two physical activity programs for cancer survivors. CPAP The MUSC Snoring Clinic is conducting a study and seeking individuals who are not using their CPAP machine as prescribed. Down syndrome Children, ages 10 to 17, who have Down syndrome are needed for a study evaluating a new drug to help improve communication, daily living skills and socialization. Females If you are female, at least 18 years old, currently use cocaine, and in good health, you may be eligible to participate in a non-treatment study to investigate impulsivity. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of an investigational drug not approved by the Food and Drug Administration in comparison to an approved drug and placebo. Female sufferers of stress urinary incontinence Women, 18 years of age and older, who have had symptoms of stress urinary incontinence for at least 12 months are needed. To be eligible, you must: leak urine when you laugh, cough, sneeze or are involved in physical activity, have undergone some form of nonsurgical treatment (e.g., pelvic floor exercises, electro-stimulation) with unsatisfactory results, and available for follow-up for at least 12 months. Fibromyalgia Researchers are evaluating an investigational treatment for chronic pain that involves the uses of magnetic pulses to stimulate the area of the brain thought to be involved in pain perception. Healthy adults Researchers are evaluating an investigational treatment for pain that involves the use of magnetic pulses (transcranial magnetic stimulation) to stimulate areas of the brain that are thought to be involved in pain perception. The research will study acid and non-acid reflux and any damage to the esophagus (swallowing tube) if and when it is found.
