EarthKAM Images and Art
Notes:
In the hands of a talented artist such as Mary Edna Fraser of Charleston, an EarthKAM image can become a work of art. Mary Edna’s batiks, based on aerial and space images of the Earth, have been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution. Here, she has turned a gorgeous STS-86 image of the northern coast of Brazil into a six foot long batik.
Treating EarthKAM images as the raw material for creative art projects brings a new perspective and may reach a different student population whose primary interest lies outside the realm of pure science.
