June, 1995 the Can-Do
teachers went to the Berry Islands, Bahamas in order to ground truth some of the
pictures that our remote cameras took aboard the the orbiter Endeavor during a June, 1993 flight. This week
long, bare boat adventure allowed 24 teachers to examine the area closely, collect
specimen for the classroom, document with pictures from the ground, and design a few classroom
activities to share
with you. It also allowed us to compare details shown in the remote
pictures to what we
could actually touch, see, and experience in this area. Preparation for this trip included
Tropical Marine Science graduate course work and real world learning. We have also included best and
worst experiences
from first hand accounts and pictures of this adventure.
