Admission Requirements
The following requirements must be completed prior to starting the program:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  • Submitted GRE test scores
  • At least 16 semester hours of prerequisites must be completed at the time of application.
  • CPR Certification: completion of the Basic Life Support course for health professionals from the American Heart Association. information is available at www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3011975

A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 or higher in prerequisite courses is required. Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited institution and must be completed by mid-May for applicants to be eligible to enter the program which begins at the end of May. Applications are accepted beginning July 1st for admission the following May. Please note: applicants must have completed at least 16 semester hours of the science prerequisites (chemistry, physics, biology, anatomy and physiology) at the time of application. All applicants must have computer experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software such as Powerpoint. Courses taken in the fall or spring semesters in the year of application will count towards completion of the prerequisites, but the grades will not be used in GPA calculations for admission.

GRE scores are required at the time of application. Although there is currently no minimum score required for admission to the PT program, GRE scores are used to rank applicants. When taking the GRE, allow for sufficient time for official scores to reach MUSC prior to the application deadline. Application deadlines can be found at http://www.musc.edu/chp/pt/ptadmis.shtml.

Volunteer or work hours in physical therapy are required. Applicants must submit documentation of 100 hours of PT-specific volunteer or work experience and a satisfactory reference from the physical therapist who supervised the majority of those hours. The hours and the reference should be documented on the Volunteer/Work Experience Form. An additional reference is also required.

CPR certification through the American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers course is required prior to enrollment.
