| Admissions Requirements Applicants for admission are expected to complete their general education and supporting course requirements prior to admission to the professional physician assistant curriculum at the Medical University of South Carolina. The prerequisite general education requirements not only conform to college-wide degree requirements, but also include those courses deemed essential for preparation for the physician assistant curriculum. The 90 semester-hour prerequisite requirements are as follows: | Course | Semester Hours | | English | 6 | | Mathematics | 3 | | Statistics or Biostatistics | 3 | | General Chemistry – includes lab | 8 | | Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry – includes lab | 4 | | Biology – includes lab | 4 | | Anatomy – includes lab | 4 | | Physiology – includes lab | 4 | | Microbiology – includes lab | 4 | Behavioral Sciences –general psychology(required), plus six credits of psychology electives and/or sociology electives | 9 | | Humanities and/or Social Sciences | 12 | Electives – Communication, computer science, epidemiology, and medical terminology suggested. In concert with current policies and procedures, candidates will be chosen on the basis of (1) prior academic work based on cumulative, and science GPA, (2) GRE scores, (3) recommendations, (4) personal interview with the Admission Committee.
