Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia
Admission Requirements
The applicant must:

• be a graduate of an accredited baccalaureate or higher degree generic program in nursing or hold a bachelors degree in a basic science, or appropriate health science, in addition to his/her academic preparation as a registered professional nurse.
• submit satisfactory scores on the Aptitude Test of the Graduate Record Examination.
• have passed a state board examination for registered professional nurses.
• furnish proof of licensure as a registered professional nurse upon initiating the application process, and upon matriculation, all students will be required to have a South Carolina RN license.
• have a required minimum of one year nursing experience (as a registered professional nurse) in the critical care setting (ICU, CCU, SICU, MICU, etc.) prior to matriculation (three to five years preferred). Units such as recovery room, emergency/trauma, and high-risk labor and delivery can be evaluated for partial credit on an individual basis. Prerequisite courses include general chemistry, anatomy, physiology and statistics. Organic chemistry or biochemistry is recommended, but not required.

Note: In addition to meeting all federal and state statutory and regulatory requirements, foreign nurses, appropriately educated and credentialed in their own country, seeking to come to the United States on Non-Immigrant Educational Visas (J-1) must demonstrate successful completion of the examination administered by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) prior to consideration for admission into the accredited nurse anesthesia educational program. Such individuals who have not achieved licensure as registered professional nurses in the United States do not meet the eligibility requirements for admission to this program.

International applicants should submit complete information as early as possible to allow adequate time for processing. In addition to other admission requirements, the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required. A required personal interview will be requested during the spring semester.

The curriculum spans a total of 29 months in a front-loaded format (i.e., didactic coursework for 12 months followed by a 15-month clinical residency). Applicants are required to have all of their application materials (i.e., transcripts, scores, and references) submitted by the admissions deadline.
