Master in Health Administration Admission Requirements
The Master of Research Administration program will accept students meeting the following criteria: - Completion of a Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0;
- At least 1 year experience in research administration or sponsored programs administration in any research field;
- Completion of the GRE exam with a aggregate score of at least 1,000 or GMAT exam with a score of at least 500;
- Completion of a MUSC admission application.
We expect that the majority of the applicants will already be practicing in the area of research administration. Inclusion of an experience requirement will promote interaction among students and a more homogeneous level of understanding of the field for incoming students. Information about the transfer course articulation among South Carolina colleges and universities may be found at http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/bulletin/transfer_policy/index.html. All students are required to be proficient in Windows, Word and Excel. Aptitude Tests Applicants must submit satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE - verbal, quantitative, and analytical) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Scores older than five years may be considered on an individual basis. Applicants with terminal degrees (e.g., M.D./D.O., D.M.D./D.D.S., J.D., Ph.D./Dr.P.H./Sc.D.) may request a waiver of the GRE or GMAT. Application Procedures The Residential MHA curriculum is designed for fall semester entry. Applicants should submit all materials no later than March 1 to be considered for acceptance for the fall semester. The admissions committee will begin reviewing applications in November. It is to the applicant’s advantage to submit completed applications as early as possible. The Executive MHA curriculum is designed for spring or summer semester entry. Students interested in applying for the spring semester should have all application materials in by November 1. Applications for summer session are due February 15. Individuals applying to the Executive MHA program are expected to have 2-3 years health experience or comparable professional work experience. Recommendations Applicants are asked to obtain recommendations from individuals who are able to evaluate the applicant’s suitability to pursue graduate level education. The applicant is asked to waive the right to have access to each confidential appraisal form. Transfer of Graduate Work A maximum of 12 hours in course credit from other accredited institutions may be evaluated for transfer into the University. The MUSC transcript will show only total units credited in transfer without mention of grades or institution of origin. It is the applicant’s responsibility to request approval in writing of any transfer credit. International Students
The faculty of the Department of Health Administration and Policy welcomes international students who meet the admission requirements of the University and those of this department. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for admission for those international students whose native language is not English. Although the actual score will be evaluated in conjunction with other academic credentials, a minimum of 550 (213 on the computer-generated test) is highly desirable. All students are required to possess an acceptable level of communication skills at the graduate level. This includes reading comprehension, oral communication, and writing using acceptable standards of grammar and punctuation. | | | | Last updated: | 12/13/2007
