Free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Broadcast date: 2009-11-06

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes and a leading cause of blindness. High blood sugar levels over time can damage the small blood vessels in your retina.
Don't wait for symptoms - often there are none in early stages of diabetic retinopathy. (That's why it is so important to have a dilated eye exam at least once a year!)
Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent loss of vision.

MUSC Storm Eye Institute is contributing to the eye health of the community with a free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening on November 13 by appointment.
To make an appointment, please call MUSC Health Connections at 792-1414

Requirements:
1) Must be a person with diabetes and who has not had a dilated eye exam in over one (1) year.
Note: This is a dilated eye exam screening; not a full eye exam.
For more information or a "Don't Lose Sight of Diabetic Retinopathy" brochure, please call Carolyn C. Cavanaugh, RN, CRNO at (843) 792-4735 or E-mail me at cavanaug@musc.edu.
