Clinics, Classes Canceled Sept 5 - MUHA Effected

(NEWS ALERT)

09-05-2008
Jeff Watkins watkinsj@musc.edu

All clinics, elective surgeries and classes at MUSC have been canceled for Friday, Sept. 5 due to potential adverse weather conditions expected from Tropical Storm Hanna.

All designated university employees should report to work under their respective department?s adverse weather policy. Non-designated employees do not have to report to work Sept. 5; however, they must utilize annual leave or take leave without pay for time missed.

The MUSC Medical Center is implementing the Intermediate Weather Plan which does not call for a formal Team A and Team B but rather those employees who are scheduled to work Friday may need to stay later or come in earlier.

There is a large amount of forecast variability in the time that the Charleston area will be experiencing high winds. Currently, this is predicted for as early as 10 am on Friday to as late as 5 pm on Friday. Winds are not likely to die down until about 2-3 am Saturday.

Regardless, medical staff need to understand that if you come to the medical center, you may need to stay until the winds die down enough to travel. Those that begin 24 hour in house call, starting Friday morning, will most likely be unaffected. Those that begin 12 hour in house call, starting Friday morning, will be most impacted by this storm. Those that take call from home, but may need to be in the hospital for an emergency, should plan to stay here during the approximate 8-12 hour period that winds will be too high to travel.

Please review plans with your department chairperson, division chiefs, or program directors.
