Tissue Engineering Lung Structures

Lung tissue engineering is a research area that has not yet been widely explored, partially due to the great difficulties in engineering the elastic bronchioles and the complex blood vessel network covered alveolus structure and establishing cell-air interfacing micro-environments in vitro. Based on our knowledge in biomaterial, scaffold research, bioreactor design and developmental biology, we have established the essential techniques to grow functional lung structures in vitro. This project can serve as a pioneer attempt towards engineering functional lung unit in vitro.
