Graduate Program (Apply to Clemson)
The Application Process
As a graduate student, you are admitted to the graduate school rather than to the Bioengineering Department. Therefore, your application must be sent to the Graduate School, who takes care of all the administrative details such as making sure that it is complete, that you have paid your application fee, etc. For your application to be considered complete, you must submit:
The completed application form
Application fee
Official transcripts from the universities you attended previously
At least two letters of recommendation from previous or current teachers and/or employers
Official GRE general test score reported by ETS
Official TOEFL score reported by ETS (for international students only)
Once your application is complete at the Graduate School, it is sent to us to for evaluation of your academic credentials. We then report our decision (as to whether to admit you or not) back to the Graduate School, who will then send you your official letter of acceptance (or denial). The entire process (from the time your application is complete to the time you receive your official letter) usually takes about 3-4 weeks, thus it is important for you to apply as early as possible.
How To Apply
It is quickest and easiest to apply electronically. Instructions and forms are available at the web site of the Graduate School. If however, you need a paper application forms, please contact us at the address given below, and we will have them sent to you right away.
Applications Deadline
Applicants whose files are completed prior to February 15 will be given preferential consideration for financial aid in the form of research assistantships. However, you must have completed your application by July 15 (April 15 for international students) if you wish to start in August and November 15 (September 15 for international students) if you wish to start in January. International applicants will not be considered for the Masters program (consideration for these students will be given only for the Ph.D. program).
Admission Requirements
We do not have set requirements for acceptance into our program; each application is evaluated individually and we take into account your undergraduate/graduate records, GRE scores, and recommendation letters. Past research experience or employment in areas relevant to bioengineering also carries weight. As a general rule of thumb, however, applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2/4.0 or higher and GRE scores of 1100 (sum of verbal and quantitative sections) and 4.0 (analytical writing) or higher.
