Dear CHP alumni and friends,

The spring season in Charleston always brings with it excitement and new beginnings. CHP has certainly had an exciting and busy spring semester, with many of our students and faculty members being recognized for their accomplishments across the country. We’re also about a month away from graduation day for many of our programs – MHA, DHA, OT, CVP, PT and AFN. I hope that you’ll join me in wishing our soon-to-be graduates best wishes as they embark on their new beginnings. I know they will continue to make CHP proud, just as the students and faculty members I’ve highlighted below have.

We are very lucky to have incredible faculty, staff and leadership in the college. I’m grateful that national professional organizations recognize how incredible these individuals are as well.

  • Congratulations to Dr. Rick Segal, who has been awarded the 2023 John P. Maley Award from the APTA Academy of Research. This award recognizes outstanding leadership in research over a sustained period.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Dave Fitzgerald, who is currently serving as president-elect for the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion. He formerly served as president of the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology from 2012 to 2014, making him the only person to have held both positions during his career!

Our students are making an impact – in the classroom and beyond. I’m particularly proud of these student groups for representing CHP so well.

  • On behalf of the CARES clinic, students from our MHA, PT and OT programs attended the Pro Bono Network Conference from March 10 to 11 in Chester, Pennsylvania.
  • Students from our MHA program competed in the 17th annual University of Alabama Birmingham Student Health Administration Case Competition from February 22 through 24. MUSC was awarded one of six semi-finalist awards!

We have a lot to be proud of this semester and I know we will continue to work hard and finish the semester out strong!
