MUSC Alliance for Hispanic Health Celebrated Its 1 Year Anniversary in January 2006

Accomplishments from January 2005 to January 2006 are listed below: 
• Coordinated MUSC’s 1st Hispanic-American Heritage Festival
  o Co-sponsored with International Programs to show the movie Spanglish
  o Co-sponsored with Student Programs to hold La Fiesta Student Party
  o Co-sponsored with Office of Student Diversity to hold Hispanic-American Celebration
  o Co-sponsored with the CON Office of Hispanic Initiatives to hold a lectureship including the President of the National Hispanic Medical Association
• Established MUSC’s 1st Awards for Distinguished Service for Health of the Hispanic Community
• Established www.musc.edu/ahh website with resources for healthcare professionals, students, and the community regarding Healthcare for the Hispanic community
• Co-sponsored with BiLingo, LLC to establish Conversaciones medical and conversational Spanish classes during lunch
• Established AHH Community Connections
  o Our Lady of Mercy Migrant Workers Outreach
  o MUSC Prenatal Care Outreach
  o John’s Island Rural Mission
  o Tentative: Crimestoppers, People Against Rape (PAR), My Sister’s House, Sea Island Medical Mission, etc.
• Co-sponsored with the CON Office of Hispanic Initiatives, BiLingo, LLC, and International Programs to establish the first MUSC Medical Spanish Workshop
• Held campus-wide drives for
  o Cover the Uninsured Week Linen Drive to benefit Our Lady of Mercy Migrant Outreach
  o World Food Day Food Drive to benefit Our Lady of Mercy Migrant Outreach
• Participated in community health fairs
