New PPRNet Project

PPRNet is pleased to announce that it has received a contract from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) for the project “Reducing Inappropriate Prescribing of Antibiotics by Primary Care Clinicians (ABX-TRIP)”.  The two-year project will begin on August 24, 2009, and  be led by Arch Mainous, PhD, Professor of Family Medicine at MUSC, an internationally known expert on the subject.

The project will assess the facilitators and barriers to use, as well as the impact on antibiotic prescribing, of a clinical decision support system (note template) for diagnosis and management of acute respiratory tract infections.

ABX-TRIP will nicely complement ongoing research projects: Colorectal Cancer Screening in Primary Care (C-TRIP), Medication Safety in Primary Care (MS-TRIP), Electronic Standing Orders (SO-TRIP), and Alcohol Screening and Medication (AM-TRIP) as we attempt to assess the impact of the PPRNet Quality Improvement model using McKesson’s Practice Partner EMR.

PPRNet practices that have already expressed interest in  ABX-TRIP will be contacted soon with more details about the study.  However, we are also interested in hearing from other practices that may be interested in participating.  Please respond to me, Steve Ornstein, MD, Founder of PPRNet, by email to indicate your interest.

For questions about this page or other questions about PPRNet please feel free to contact Dr. Steve Ornstein at ornstesm@musc.edu.
