Welcome
Welcome to the Practice Partner Research Network (PPRNet) web site. PPRNet
is located in the Department of Family Medicine at the Medical University of
South Carolina, Charleston, SC in one of the oldest medical universities of the United States
(circa 1824).
PPRNet was formed in May 1995 as a joint effort between the Department of Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Practice Partner in Seattle, WA. PPRNet is a unique and pioneering concept in practice-based quality improvement and research. PPRNet is the first practice-based research network linking physicians who use electronic medical records.
Although practice-based research networks have been in existence for many years as a means facilitating collaborative research among family physicians, PPRNet is unique in that all of its members use Practice Partner's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to capture their patient information. Also unique is PPRNet's emphasis on improving care in its member practices.
A longitudinal patient database comprised of data from electronic medical records (EMRs) from participating physicians throughout the United States provides the basis for PPRNet's research activities. PPRNet's design protects the confidentiality of patients and physicians and requires minimal time commitment for busy physicians. PPRNet addresses questions important for primary care practice. Currently, PPRNet has 135 physician practices, representing over 700 health care providers, and approximately 1.8 million patients located in 38 states.
Clinical Performance
Measures for Ambulatory Care Practice
Select PPRNet practices have agreed to
publish their performance on several clinical measures for public information.
The clinical measures included are based on the starter set
of measures for physician performance established by the coalition now known as
the AQA alliance, originally called the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance.

Special Announcement
| The American College of
Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) has named Andrea Wessell, PharmD and co-investigator on many of PPRNet projects
the winner of the 2008 ACCP New
Clinical Practitioner Award.
This award recognizes a College member less than six years since
completion of training who has made outstanding contributions to the
health of patients and to the practice of clinical pharmacy. Dr.
Wessell will be recognized in April at the 2008 spring awards ceremony in
Phoenix, AZ.
