Don't forget the milonga at Gage Hall on Friday night, June 7 at 8:00

AND

our participation in the Piccolo Spoleto Finale at Hamptom Park on Saturday, June 8. Before we dance at approximately 7:30, we plan to meet at the gazebo and have a picnic, so bring something to share and something to sit on. See below.

Tango at Market Hall

Both outdoor milongas were very successful at Market Hall. Classical Argentine tango music filled the market, and despite the brick floor, all tangueros were true tango street dancers who enjoyed the event with gusto. There were many onlookers standing in the doorways who were fascinated by tango, and a few even participated, despite the intimidating nature of tango. Just prior to the first milonga, some of the tangueros attended the concert by Quintango who played to a sell-out crowd of tango music lovers. Joan and Irwin Singer (Joan is the founding leader of Quintango.) joined us later at the milonga. Other guest tangueros came from Durham, North Carolina and Greeneville, South Carolina.

As a result of our exposure at Market Hall, Nina was interviewed by a reporter from the State newspaper in Columbia. The article will be sent to us for our scrapbook. In addition, there is a good chance that we will be included in a gala performance this fall involving the combination of Quintango and the Charleston Symphony! All of this is good news, and we will be keeping you up-to-date.

Charleston Tango email list

Lastly, anyone who wants to be on our email list with YahooGroups, send me your email address, and I will send an invitation to you. We do it this way to prevent unwanted intrusions and spam.

To Our Tango Friends,

We invite you to come to Charleston, South Carolina during the Spoleto Festival (May 24 - June 9) to enjoy an array of cultural and artistic activities, including Argentine Tango.   This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the ambience of Charleston and performances by world-famous artists.  There are even secret paths to explore. Quintango, an ensemble of great tango musicians from Washington, DC, will appear for their third year of sell-out concerts.  More links are below for more information about our group, Charleston and the Festivals.

The Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs has asked our local tango group to participate in several events in the SpoletoUSA Festival and the concurrent Piccolo Spoleto Festival.   This is a great chance for us to expand our talents and our tango community.  We would love to have you celebrate these events with us:

A note from your hosts:

Come to Charleston and have a great time with your tango friends. This is a no-frills affair. You won't have to pay out a ton of hard-earned money to attend expensive workshops, because there are none. Just think of the benefits-- you won't get frustrated and exhuasted from trying to learn new moves that you will promptly forget. We are simply going to dance and socialize. The events are all free to you. Don't worry about formalities, the most important thing to do is to come join us for a fun time in tango.

Sincerely,

The Charleston Argentine Tango Society.

Housing

Our group is offering limited housing on a first-come, first-served basis.  We invite you to come to Charleston as our guests.  If you prefer a hotel, please make arrangements as soon as possible since the demand for accommodations is quite high during the Festival.

Dress Code:

Well, we could all wear uniforms, but we really don't have a dress code. Surely no two women would want to show up with the same outfits. Be advised to "dress to kill" for the milonga on June 7 and for both finales.
