An introduction to the general principles of biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology. Topics include protein chemistry, enzyme function and kinetics, intermediary metabolism, structure and function of cellular organelles, and introductory genetics. Weekly discussion periods provide time for discussion of lecture topics and current literature. Some laboratories on biochemical methodology will also be included. With permission of the instructor, specific parts of this course may be taken for partial credit. Prerequisites: undergraduate biology, organic chemistry.
